Trying to paint of picture of what it was like to live and work and serve on the ship. This will be my 10th book. My previous book, Ballad of the Green Beret, is a biography of Staff Sgt. Barry Sadler. I served in Vietnam in the Army in 1967-68. Thanks.

Comments: My father, EM3 Michael Kobylanski, was aboard in 1943 and remained on board throughout the war. He's currently living in Yountville, CA at the Veteran's Home, and still strong at the grand old age of 95. He never stopped honoring the memory of his shipmates who died throughout the war, most notably Harold Horner who was killed Oct 13th in the attack. His best friend. I am in awe of the men that my father spoke so highly about. If any of them find their way to this comment, please know that he was honored to call you shipmate and you have my utmost respect and thanks for answering the call those many days ago.

Comments: My dad (Radioman Roger Womack) served on the USS Canberra during the Vietnam War. As a child I was lucky enough to go on a dependents cruise out of San Diego during which I got a snapshot of life on the Canberra. While out to sea there was a demonstration of the fire power of the ship. As I recall the ship rolled a bit with each shot and I couldn't have been more impressed! My father passed long ago but always spoke fondly of his time on the Canberra and their extended cruise.
